Trying to compare portable GPS units (Global Positioning Systems) can be like trying to compare snowflakes: they all start to look the same, even though you know that they're different.
There are so many different brands with multiple features that it can make a shopper's head spin trying to sort them out. Knowing what features and benefits are essential to your travel needs is vital in finding the best GPS unit for your money.
Garmin is one of the most trusted names in the GPS industry. Garmin's Nuvi 600 series devices offered some of the best features of any GPS units. But, just like every type of technological gadget, if it doesn't keep changing with the times it will soon be obsolete.
So, again, if you're trying to compare portable gps units...
Enter the Nuvi 700 series from Garmin.
Garmin's model 760 is the flagship of the series that also features the 750 and 770. How is it different from the 600 series devices? The look of the 760 is the first sign that this is a new and improved GPS device.
The 760 takes up less space than any of the 600 series units - it is only three inches high, 4.8 inches wide and an amazing eighth of an inch deep. The 760 also features an impressive 4.3-inch display screen, making it easy to read when you're trying to find out where you're going.
The 760 features six icons on the main menu page instead of the eight that were on the 600 series, which makes the navigation icons easier to read. Another new feature on the 760 is a "Last Position" option that will help users find their car in large parking lots. The GPS device can be removed from your car and it will then guide you back to the "last position" it was in before you removed it.
Other new features on the Garmin 760 include the ability to add up to 10 routes for long trips, a "Where am I?" option that allows users to search for the nearest points of interest to their current location and an internal antenna.
Another important feature on the Garmin 760 is the Bluetooth phone interface. The 760 allows users to transfer all of the phone contacts and necessary data from their cell phone to their GPS device for a seamless communication transfer.
One way in which the Garmin 760 is similar to the previous 600 series units is in the price. While it is not cheap, the 760 costs about the same as the 600 series devices, which is an added bonus since it offers many more features.
So, the journey of comparing portable GPS units has come to an end (fortunately)...
